Posted By: Guy Thu, Jan 22, 2015 It's a painting in a Wajima-nuri technique(Wajima lacquerware), made from a design by the artist Yoshida Saishu. It is part from a larger a series, representing the twelve animals of the zodiacal calendar, originally commissioned and sold by the fine-arts section of the Daimaru department store chain, probaly late 20th century. All items have a similar wooden frame and are offered at Japanese auction sites in a range of 20$ to 80$. |

Posted By: rat Wed, Jan 21, 2015 this is a contemporary Japanese presentation piece, seems like lacquer work. The artist is given in the upper right label on the back, Yoshida somebody. The company presenting the picture is named in the gold writing at the left on the reverse. Below that is probably a bio of the artist or a description of the artwork. |
