Subject:Help with Satsuma Mon
Posted By: Tom Sat, Jan 24, 2015 IP: 199.59.106.195

I have tried to figure this one out on the various websites but can't find it. If anyone can read it I would appreciate it. Thank you.

It reads 吉茄. I'm not sure about the pronunciation. I should spell it 'Kichika' (alternative reading: 'Yoshina').
Find no further info but seems to be a quality piece.

Guy.

I'm also unsure of the pronunciation in Japanese, but I believe the mark is a single character (嘉), which would be transcribed "Jia" in Chinese. When referring to the Ming Jiajing emperor, the common Japanese transcription would be "Kasei".

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thank you, Guy. I thought it was a nice piece too. I found one reference to this artist in an online book of Japanese artist's seals. There sure were a lot of people involved in this industry.

Was it spelled there 'Kichika'?

Guy.

I believe so, but there really isn't much info on this maker unfortunately.
