Subject:Japanese Metal Etching / Engraved Plate Identification Please
Posted By: Mik Sun, Jan 25, 2015 IP: 75.121.232.182

Hi, wondering if anyone could please provide identification on the etching depicted below?

Not sure if visible from the pics but there is a metal plate which appears to be steel in the center of the frame -this rectangular plate has etched/engraved portions burnished and adorned with what appears to be silver/gold.

It is framed in what looks (to me at least) to be a mid 20th century frame style.

Any information about the artist or this style of metal art would be appreciated!

Thanks,

- MIK

The signature left read 'Katsura Nobuharu koku' (engraved by Katsura Nobuharu).
Don't find much relevant information about this metalworker; he or his studio made a similar engraving of Mt Fuji (recently sold at an online auction site for a modest JPY 1000) and produced also business gifts.
That's all I can add.

Guy.

Hi Guy,

Thanks so much for your reply - appreciate the info.!

I'm wondering if you could please possibly send me a link to the auction listing you found? (I wasn't able to find it via an online search of the artists name).

Thank you!

- MIK
