Subject:Chinese rice bowl
Posted By: macheng Sat, Jan 31, 2015 IP: 145.236.22.170

Hi,

I think this piece is not contemporary, but again no clue about the age. Can you help?

Cheers,

m.

This bowl's mark of "Jing de gu yao" (景德古窯) is relegated to circa 1990 by gotheborg.com.

I went to school on one just like yours that I bought at an estate sale years ago, and have seen other examples in estate collections as recently as last November, incorrectly marked as antique.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Forgot to mention, but "Jingde Guyao" means "Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln". I can't find the mark either in Gerald Davison's latest edition of "The New & revised Handbook of Marks on Chinese Ceramics" or the 2006 Shanghai-published Zhong-guo Li-dai Tao-ci Kuan-zhi Da-dian (which I would informally translate as "Compendium of Markings on Chinese Ceramics through the Ages").

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thank you!

I think I will spend some money on those books.

Best regards,
