Subject:Can you help me to translate Japanese characters on a bronze
Posted By: Tristan Mon, Feb 02, 2015 IP: 210.50.9.141

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could please help me to translate Japanese/Chinese characters on a bronze item.
I have added the best photos I could take, and I am sorry if I do not have them the right way up.
I was told it was Japanese about 100 years old, so any help would be great.
Thanks in advance
Tristan

Nice Japanese Meiji era bronze 'okimono' (statue) of a fox. The seal reads 'Juzan chûzô (壽山鑄造, 'casted by Juzan'). I should date it ca. 1900 or slightly later.

Guy.

My pleasure. Just wanted to add that the fox (kitsune) has a special place in Japanese mythology.
