Posted By: Guy Thu, Feb 05, 2015 Your painting is immediately recognizable as a work of art of the Japanese master painter Kishi Ganku (1756-1839), famous for his depictions of tigers and animals. I think also that this is an original. Unfortunately, originally mounted as a hanging scroll, your painting is now framed in such manner that a whole part of the signature is missing. In this way, only a fragment of the original work survived. If this was done intentionally, the chap that did the framing should be severly blamed. Fortunately, Ganku's double seal 'Ganku/Fuzen' (岸駒 賁然) is still intact. |

Posted By: rat Thu, Feb 05, 2015 Nice Japanese painting, unfortunately with some of the inscription and space cut off at the top, perhaps originally paired with another painting of a dragon. Please take a clearer close up image of the seal and repost the overall view with a subject like "Please help identify Japanese painter" and you may get some attention the Japan experts here. I might be able to recognize the characters of the seal but don't have much knowledge of Japanese artists. |
