Subject:Any Info on Paintings?
Posted By: Jess Wed, Feb 04, 2015 IP: 75.90.99.65 I recently got these two paintings and would really appreciate if anyone could give me more info on them. They were being sold as a pair, but I'm not sure if they are by the same artist. |

Posted By: Guy Thu, Feb 05, 2015 These are probably older reproductions (on paper?) of two Japanese hanging scrolls depicting bijin (beauties) from the 1780s, painted by the famous ukiyo-e artists Isoda Koryusai (1735-90) and Torii Kiyonaga (1752-1815). |

Posted By: Jess Fri, Feb 06, 2015 Yeah, I'm very sure they are reproductions, but I was still a bit curious on the background behind them. Thanks very much for the information. |

Posted By: Stan Thu, Feb 05, 2015 These are Japanese woodblock prints. The signatures are in the lower right of each print. If the signatures are the same, the artist is the same for both prints. The signatures look different from this distance. The signature you show might be Torii Kiyonaga. My concern is that Kiyonaga typically used a two character signature: Kiyonaga. |

Posted By: Guy Mon, Feb 09, 2015 First one reads 'Torii Kiyonaga ga' (painted by Kiyonaga); second one reads 'Koryusai ga' (painted by Koryusai). |
