Subject:China Cup
Posted By: NiawomaD Wed, Feb 11, 2015 IP: 86.169.195.63

Hi, I'm doing some research for my sister on a china cup and have had no luck as of yet. Any information at all about this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I Googled the mark, read down as 土田, and came up with examples of a Kutani pottery wine jug (tokkuri) and a Satsuma stoneware vase with the same two characters translated as Tsuchida. The Satsuma item was consistent with wares of the Meiji period (1868-1912), while your cup looks more like it may be Taisho (1912-26) or later. It isn't unusual for ceramics busineses to be run by successive generations under the same family name.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Your cup is Japanese.
