Subject:9" Handled Jug Blue & White Glaze Horses
Posted By: LGreen Thu, Feb 19, 2015 IP: 76.104.12.187

I am seeking assistance in identifying this 9" jug. Elements of the piece seem Asian (possibly Chinese), but I would like to confirm. There is no signature or mark. The ceramic seems to have a stoneware feel, somewhat rough and gritty. The resist used on the bottom was uneven and primitive. The pattern looks stamped, and the three horses are not carefully placed and are hard to distinguish. There seems to be a clear glaze over the white and blue, as if it was dunked first in white, stamped with blue design glaze, then dunked in clear coat glaze. Thank you for your help.

The decoration and potting tends more toward the Persian style I believe. It's not an area I'm up on, but there's got to be something for you online somewhere. Might start with Google.

Good luck,

Bill H.
