Subject:Does this look familiar?
Posted By: Adam Tue, Feb 24, 2015 IP: 108.32.87.183

I found this piece and I think its beautiful but I know nothing about it. I want to know if anyone can tell me about it. Where does it come from? Does it have any value? Is there a specific name for this type of pattern? Does this look like a rare piece? If anyone has any information about this piece I would greatly appericiate hearing from you. Thanks.

According to the venerable New York Metropolitan Museum of Art's 1989 edition of "A Handbook of Chinese Ceramics" by Suzanne G. Valenstein, the palette seen on this item should be called "famille rose" colors on a black ground. "Famille noir" is defined in the same publication as "famille verte" colors on a black ground.

Best regards,

Bill H.
