Subject:Japanese Scroll Possibly by Nakabayashi Chikkei? Artist/Translation Help!
Posted By: Max Wed, Feb 25, 2015 IP: 24.44.45.107 I was able to purchase the pictured scroll, which was list as possibly by Japanese artist Nakabayashi Chikkei. It came with in a wooden scroll case with a label attached to the end. Can anyone tell me if this is correct and or help with the translation on the scroll and label? I believe Chikkei did a lot of his work in Chinese inscriptions. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Max |

Posted By: Guy Fri, Feb 27, 2015 I compared the signature (Chikkei Hayashi Narishige) and far more important, the seals ('Seigyo no in' & 'azana (alias) Shofu'), with a known original on view in the collection of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. |

Posted By: rat Sun, Mar 01, 2015 You may already know this, but the inscription dates the picture to a winter day in 1848; also the box goes with the picture: it is labeled with the artist's name. |
