Posted By: Mark Wed, Mar 04, 2015 IP: 71.62.201.55

Hello, I was trying to identify what this says. It is a watercolor painting. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry the red stamp is hard to pick up in a picture.

Subject:Fun at the country villa by Ms. Chen Yu-qiong

At the left of your first photo, from top to bottom:

The first 5 Chinese characters:

趣在鄉墅中

is the title of the painting:

"Fun at the country villa"

which describes the complete scene of a scholar who enjoyed reading his book in his country residence.

The next two characters:
毓瓊
Yu Qiong is probably the name of a Chinese female artist;

and the next character:

means "painted by"

and the script in the red chop mark is the family or maiden name of the female artist:

陳 which can be pronounced as Chen in mandarian, Chan in Cantonese or Chin, Tan, etc. in other Chinese dialects.

Therefore, all of the characters plus the seal basically say:

"Fun at the country villa" painted by Ms. Chen Yu-qiong

Hope this helps.

Super
