Subject:Re: Surprise discovery
Posted By: rat Tue, Mar 17, 2015 Dated with a cyclical year most likely corresponding with 1954, by someone calling themselves Dizi. I'm afraid I can't make out much of the seal but expect that has more to with the selling establishment. The artist would have applied his/her seal to the painting surface. |

Posted By: rat Fri, Mar 20, 2015 "Mountain water painting" is the literal translation of 山水画, and idiomatically is the term for "landscape painting". 迪子 is either the artist's given name or, more likely, a nickname. There was a Song painter named Li Di, and this painter could be saying that he is a disciple (子) of Li Di, but that's really speculative. This picture is probably meant for the tourist market, and has no stylistic relevance to Li Di's works. 笛子 are the characters for the (horizontal) bamboo flute. |
