Posted By: Juan M Ipina Fri, Mar 20, 2015 IP: 104.221.123.145

This tiger has been in my family for near 100 years and I would like to now a bit more about it.
Hoping someone can give me more info, I send three pictures. Thank you.

I believe the mark (shown on its left side) may read down when flipped as "Made by Seiko" (Sei-ko Tsukuru - 清光作). The characters at left are standard forms of the cursive ones in the mark.

A similar tiger and mark came up in the forum a couple of years ago (Link). There was no agreement on how to transcribe the kanji then. Perhaps someone has a better idea now.

Best regards,

Bill H.

This is a beautiful Meiji bronze okimono of a roaring tiger with the original wooden base, signed 'Seiko saku' (made by Seiko), probably casted in the workshop of the famous metalworker Sato Seiko, ca. 1890-1900.
