Posted By: Bill H Mon, Mar 23, 2015 Your pitcher is an example of Sumida Gawa pottery. The mark reads down from the top right in seal-writing script as "Inoue Ryosai". A similar pitcher also marked with the same name is pictured on page 167 of "Sumida...according to us" (2001) by Herbert Karp & Gardner Pond. The same book notes that three potters signed this name to Sumida ware during the late 19th and early 20th century. |
