Subject:Frog Vase ID
Posted By: MrFlux Mon, Mar 23, 2015 IP: 120.150.194.49

I have a frog vase that needs some identification.

I have done some googling and found some similar examples with the exact same frogs on them, but they have been attributed to English designers and makers.

It has a mark on the bottom, which is unusual because the other vases and bowls I have seen online have been unmarked.

Can anyone translate the mark on the bottom?

has anyone seen anything like this before and can give me some more info?

Thanks!

I'm no expert and I can't make out the mark, but if I had to wager a guess: handmade (probably for export?), around mid-century at the latest (50s-70s?), Majolica style, possibly Chinese? Sorry if that's not much help (or completely off the mark, I welcome anyone with more knowledge to correct me). Even with a frog missing an eye, it's a fun piece, almost reminds me of sumida gawa. Value for this sort of thing seems to be between $40 and $100. :) Good luck, I hope you can find out more.
