Subject:Famille Rose, Famille Verte or Niether?

Attractive lidded bottle vase with an inscription,which I believe makes reference to the Chinese poet Dongli (Ma Zhiyuan) but even on this, I am unsure. What has really got me thinking is the pallet. Is it verte or rose, seems to comprise elements of both. Perhaps it is neither.

Hi, I do not think this is Chinese at all, I have an identical one and believe it is Japanese Satsuma-style ware, but produced in Kyoto, from the end of the 19th century. I never found the exact mark, but I would think the maker is Kinkozan? Maybe others can help reading the mark...However, I do not think it is referring to Dongli, as the last sign means "zo" (made at), which is typical for a maker's mark.

The mark reads 'Tôritei zô' (東籬亭造). A Japanese commercial site that sells a vase from the same workshop, confirms that it was a Kyoto based maker active in the Meiji period. Found no further relevant info.

The signature is Chinese - Dong LiHeng Zao

東籬亨造

Dong is a Chinese Family name.

Thanks to everyone for their contributions. The balance of opinion seems to be that it is indeed a Japanese late Meiji vase.

IMO, the correct appelation should be Kyoto 'Awata ware' (Awatayaki - 粟田焼).

Link below shows you a small Meiji period basket with a similar decoration. Look also at the price of this item.

$30,000 for my vase seems a little steep, perhaps ceramic baskets are more prized than bottle vases. Nice thought though.

I checked that price and came up with 185,000.00 JPY = 1,554.74 USD. Still nothing to sneeze at.

185.000 JPY corresponds with 1550 USD or 1400 EUR.
Still, a nice amount of money for such small object. Anyway, seems that Awata ware from this period - with this decoration - is highly esteemed in Japan.
