Subject:Need Help to ID this Japanese Print
Posted By: RSW Fri, Apr 10, 2015 IP: 68.36.253.88

I was wondering if someone could give me any information on this print? I picked it up some years ago, and it was already framed. It looks like it's printed on some type of parchment paper? The print itself measures 10" x 14". Any info is appreciated, Thank you!

Your faded print is by Toyokuni II. See the link below for another print from the same series and more information. Like the print in the link, the inset on your print is also by Toyotoshi.

Cheers,
Stan

Stan Sun, Thank you very much for your reply. Would this mean that the print dates from Toyokuni II lifetime (1777-1835)? I'm just curious, even though it's faded, does it have any value?

I would guess that it is an original print. Putting a price on faded print is difficult. Auction sites like artelino.com don't handle prints so degraded. There was an auction site that did but it didn't survive the Great Recession. On that site it would be in the double digits. Faded prints at a local auction tend to sell for $25 to $50.

Cheers,
Stan
