Subject:Chinese Fine Vase Writing Help Please
Posted By: Michael Thu, Apr 23, 2015 IP: 108.76.71.4

Hello Forum Members,

Hoping you can help interpret the writing on this finely painted small porcelain vase. The vase is 6 inches tall and the painting is very fine although my pictures don't accurately show that.

There is writing on the back and on the bottom.

Can you please help interpret please?

Thank you.

This is a modern vase with a base mark of "Made in China at Jingdezhen". Since this mark, the verse in black and the faux seals in red all appear to be applied by decal, I suspect the remainder of the motif is transfer decoration as well.

The verse reads 大地風光好,花開满園香 (Da di feng guang hao, Hua kai man yuan xiang), translatable as:

Throughout the world the scenery is good,

Flowers bloom and gardens fill with fragrance

Best regards,

Bill H.

The black calligraphy says (right to left, top down): beautiful landscapes on earth, while flowers blooming in the garden and the air is filled with fragrance. The red seal mark says "made in China, Jingdezhen".
