Subject:cash coin or button?

I wonder why this Korean cash coin was cut into an octogon with four holes. Was it to be used as button on a jacket?

I have seen a webpage about cash coins with four holes that were sown onto a leather jacket to serve as armor, but the purpose of this coin is probably different, because of the shape.
