Subject:Small Bronze Figure - Tibet or China?
Posted By: Mat Thu, May 07, 2015 IP: 195.251.104.62

Hi,
I would like to find out more about this small bronze figure. It has traces of gilding. On the bottom ( that is hollow but has been filled up with a black mass in attempt to stabilize it ) was an old label stating "Tibet, 14th century". Now, I am no expert in Tibetan sculpture, but somehow it looks much more Chinese to me? And for a date I would guess late Ming?
Thank you very much in advance for any information you can give me!

Mat

Thank you Rémy for confirming that it is Chinese. I have seen some late Ming figural joss stick holders that are somehow similar, and also this figure likely had some pracical use, as there was someting attached to the back of it that is broken off now. I will continue to search for comparable figures...
Mat
