Subject:Older than your average Chinese export lacquerware?
Posted By: Vince Carco Wed, May 20, 2015 IP: 69.129.60.234

This little (4.75 x 3.75 x 1.87 in.) white box looks much older to me than the other inexpensive cinnabar/carved lacquer export pieces I have that are marked CHINA on the bottom (presumably indicating export around the beginning of the 20th century). Anyone care to venture a guess on age? The carving is not particularly fine and is worn down in spots to boot, and the reign mark (for what that's worth) is mostly worn away, having been applied with what looks like some kind of cement, but I took a pencil rubbing that might be indicative to those of you who know about these things. Any help on aging this piece much appreciated.

Sorry, apparently the pictures I attached didn't make it with the original post. Trying again.
