I recently purchased this statue/Lamp on Hardstone and was told it might be Jade, how can I tell for sure?

Dear Peter, Your statue is not jade but soapstone. It's a Kwannin-female form of Avalokiteshvara-and was made in China. The surface of jade sculptures is glossy and harder.Jade is relatively rare and much more expensive.
Best regards, Rémy

It's not jade, for which one test is to attempt to scratch it with a sharp knife. Jade's hardness should make it impervious to such attempts, its resistance to human efforts to shape it being one reason why well-worked jade is valued as much as it is. Search this website on "jade" to find additional tests.

Does not look like jade to me. You can do a scratch test to confirm.
