Subject:Is this a Jade Statue/Lamp???

Posted By: Rémy DOUKHAN Thu, May 28, 2015 Dear Peter, Your statue is not jade but soapstone.It's a Kwannin-female form of Avalokiteshvara-and was made in China.The surface of jade sculptures is glossy and harder.Jade is relatively rare and much more expensive. |

Posted By: rat Thu, May 28, 2015 It's not jade, for which one test is to attempt to scratch it with a sharp knife. Jade's hardness should make it impervious to such attempts, its resistance to human efforts to shape it being one reason why well-worked jade is valued as much as it is. Search this website on "jade" to find additional tests. |
