Subject:Tea bowl
Posted By: Daniel Drabek Thu, Jul 02, 2015 IP: 50.1.50.232 I found this sitting on a shelf at the local Goodwill store in with the assorted china and kitchenware. Any help in identification is appreciated. Apologies in advance if I have the signature upside down. |

Posted By: Bill H Mon, Jul 20, 2015 The character on the base of your cup appears to be 真. One of its pronunciations is Makoto, which is the name of at least a couple of Japanese potters who are known for Raku wares. However, there also are other possible transliterations. I looked at cups of the two potters whose wares are being advertised on trocadero.com and note that neither one signs their cups with this same mark, but if you have the time to search the character further, you may have better luck. |
