Subject:Small white nephrite jade carving

I think this is a modern carving. Although the head and body are not in right proportions, it is still a delightful little piece, standing at about 3.5 inches high.

Hi, Michael:

I actually like the material of this piece, based on the its color and texture shown on your pictures. Unfortunately, quite often white or celadon jade carvings failed to show their true colors on digital pictures. White jade carvings will appear to be celadon and celadon ones appear to be white. To detect the true color, you would have to put it on top of a piece of white paper and observe it under sunlight or full-spectrum (natural light) lamps. It is also extremely difficult to tell the material of white "jade" carvings without testing it. I once had some really nice looking white jade carvings, with very nice oily surface and could pass scratch test only found its S.G. was too low to be made of nephrite jade. I still have no idea what material it was. In short, I am very hesitated to even guess the age or material of your jade carving without being able to examine it in person. But it looks pretty nice. May be other jade lovers can tell more about it. Thanks for sharing. Super
