Subject:Help with Chinese or Japanese Carving

I have this Little Figurine which I am not certain if it is of Chinese or Japanese origin.

Dear William,
I can't tell you nothing about the signature,but it seems to be a meditating Japanese master.He is doing the mudra(gesture)of fearlessness.Very expressive/impressive and powerful okimono.
Take great care of this treasure.For me really a masterpiece.

thank you so much for taking the time to answer and your input. I thought it was Japanese, but wasn't certain because of the signature. I will have to do some research on the signature. The figure is indeed really fine and I hope to find out more about age.

after speaking to a friend of mine, he actually told me that the figure is Chinese and not Japanese. I am really puzzled here. So will keep searching, what in fact it is.

It is indeed Chinese carved ivory and not Japanese (thus, not signed 'Seika'), bearing the seal mark 'Chenghua' (成化) - probably made during the late Qing period.

Search for 'Chinese Chenghua ivory'.

Very nice work, though it may not be too old. The work put into the stand is indicative that someone treasured it at one time or another.

Thank you,Jim, for your thoughts on this object. I am not sure about the age. It is carved really nice and teh stand, that Looks like a Little censer was likely made specially to fit this figure.

The signature reads 'Seika'.

I thought for some reason it reads Chenghua.
