Can anyone please shed light on the translation of these Japanese markings on this vase?

The name is Morimitsu (盛光), an artist who was subject of another discussion in the forum a couple of years ago.

Best regards,

Bill H.

There are only two characters in 'Morimitsu', the second one being 'mitsu', as pronounced here. Following are the other permutations of that character from the WWWJDIC:

Best regards,

Bill H.

I'm asking these questions as I have a bronze vase with two kanji; the upper one translates as 'Masa' but the lower one is the same as the upper part of the second kanji on this vase: I'm a little confused, so please excuse my ignorance! Many thanks for your replies so far!
Cheers, David

Maybe post a photo of that vessel and its mark, because the top half of the second character here never stands on its own; it must be something different from the top of the character here.

Here's a photo of my vases' signature

Ha, I shouldn't have asked! You are right, this looks exactly like the top of the 光 character at first glance, but it's a Japanese stylization of another character, perhaps 上 or somehow relating to 工 or 也 (though your character is not 也). But I know little of Japanese character variants; try reposting as "signature on Japanese bronze" to see if one of the Japan experts recognizes it.
