Subject:Cloisonne - Help in dating
Posted By: Diego M. Santos Tue, Aug 04, 2015 IP: 179.40.182.133

I bought this cloisonne vase because the coins depicted in it (I am a collector of classical Chinese and Japanese coins). I would be very gratefull if any of yours could help me in dating it. First half of 20th century?
The inscription in the spade coin says 吉羊 ji yang "lucky Goat (year)", probably a date (1908, 1920, 1932, 1944...).
Thank you in advance!

Most likely a post-Cultural Revolution work from the Beijing Enamel Factory?

the use of 羊 in such inscriptions is not in its standard meaning of goat/sheep but as a simplification of the character 祥, for 吉祥, good wishes/good luck. It does not refer to a date. I imagine this is only a few decades old, but beadiste may be able to tell as this is his field.
