Subject:Markings on Celadon Vase
Posted By: Brett Thu, Aug 13, 2015 IP: 69.119.204.46

Hello,

Picked this vase at an estate sale that had a lot of great collectible pottery. This was the only oriental piece that was there, but there was a lot of other very expensive upscale pieces that were priced reasonably. Can someone tell me the marking, maker, period, or any other useful info. Thanks for all the help.

that is a funky script... maybe seal script. almost definitely stlyized chinese or japanese, though i had a thought for korean as well. The craquelure might be on purpose (the chinese replicated it on purpose) or it's actually very old.

Hi Brett
This is a modern Korean piece. These are replicated using similar techniques and designs from past eras, and are usually very fine work as is this one. The "crackle"glaze is common on these. Enjoy it for its beauty. They are collectible to a certain extent.
Cheers
Jim

Thanks, I figured it was Korean. Definitely a nice looking one though.
