Can anyone help identify the signature, artist, and/or country? Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

These are Korean, but I'll defer on the mark in hopes someone who speaks it can assist.

Best regards,

Bill H.

contemporary(?) Korean, the characters read "friends of the earth" (perhaps a euphemism for "farmers") but may also have a Korea-specific meaning I don't know.

I think I see the Chinese character 妻 meaning wife.

It looks similar to 妻 but is a column comprising the two characters 土 (earth) and 友 (friend)

I accessed the Unicode data base and pulled up Korean versions of these characters (토우 - 'tho wu' but pronounced 'tow' as a compound word), then with a Google query found a Korean Wikipedia entry stating that 토우 is a term for 'dolls made of clay'. The characters are also used phonetically to refer to such things as 'Tow Missiles' found in Western arsenals. The same query using "토우" also brought up pictures of related clay dolls.

Best regards,

Bill H.

"Attaboys" are always appreciated, though such efforts on my part aren't entirely altruistic but a product of unwavering curiosity about what makes these languages tick. Also, whenever someone provides characters for a mark like this, a PhD in the language isn't necessary to avail oneself of the tools provided by Google to search and machine-translate it, thereby getting a general idea of meaning...well, at least sometimes.

Good luck,

Bill H.
