Hello,

I thought this might be a good place to find more about asian silks screens that were passed on from family. Are they from China and Japan? Could anyone estimate their age/era? What features indicate help date the works? Are they parrots or peacocks (or maybe different birds?--one looks like a swan).

Also, I can't seem to find any markings. Are these more fine art or folk art pieces? Would they typically be signed in the front or back? I am afraid to open the frames to see if there is anything on the back--would this be of any help in knowing more about them?

Lastly, I certainly don't expect a precise appraisal, but would anyone know their approximate value?

You do not give dimensions or say why you call these "screens."

Embroidery not considered fine art in China. The piece you show would not be considered "folk art." Is just a peacock with simply done floral and butterfly accompaniments.

In Japan extremely fine embroidery on apparel and some older-type domestic textiles (such as kimono-quilts) might be considered fine art by some. Your example has nothing to do with these items.

Color fading suggests what you show is 10 years old or more using post-1860s dyes on threads, and has not been kept out of sunlight.

Can not tell country of origin, could be China. Purpose of what you show could be just decorative, possibly made for tourist.
