Subject:Is this bone carving japanese?
Posted By: Ana Wed, Sep 23, 2015 IP: 72.226.16.80 I have been unable to identify this whale bone carving. The bird looks like a crane, so I though it was Japanese, but a couple of collectors told me that it is not. They were unable to identify the piece, either. Hope someone in the forum could shed some light on this piece |

Posted By: Edu Thu, Oct 01, 2015 Thank you for your message. The piece is hollow and some of the carving next to the bird goes through the wall, which looks like 1/8" thick. It is very difficult to photograph these hollow motives, there is little light going through the opening on the top. |
