Subject:Blue and White Rectangular Plates
Posted By: Birdy Fri, Sep 25, 2015 IP: 174.51.121.159

I acquired both of these plates and am trying to learn more about them. I purchased them with custom made lucite stands which is what the velcro affixes to. I have not removed the velcro and would like to know:

1) What did I purchase?
2) Should I remove the velcro?
3) If yes, What would be the best approach to removing the velcro and adhesive.

I was able to pull up one piece of velcro enough to snap a photo of most of the mark on one of them. The plates are similar, but not identical (see images).

Well... I should remove the velcron if these very nice dishes were mine. Just pull it off and if there is any glue left you can clean it with allmost anything you like (f.i. alcohol).
Once you removed it I guess you will see the mark "Ken" in Japanese kanji. This is the same is "Qianlong" in Chinese. This marking in this form was used on Japanese porcelain around the late Edo period. (1780-1860)so, that's what you have.

Regards,

Arjan
