Subject:Art identification...
Posted By: Rick Mon, Oct 12, 2015 IP: 99.5.67.14

Hello. I know absolutely nothing about Japanese art and have no idea how to identify a piece I acquired p, so I figured I would pop in here and ask! Hopefully someone can point me in a direction. Thanks for any help!

Rick

This is a Noh woodblock print produced by Uchida Han Publishing of Kyoto.

Uchida is known for producing primarily souvenir prints, reprints of famous Ukiyo-e prints or original works from their stable of studio artists.

It's a Japanese woodblock print by Akitoyo Terada (active 1950s) of a dancer performing the lion dance in the noh play, "Shakkyo". Signed 'Akitoyo' with the publisher's seal of the Uchida Art Company. The name of the publisher is also printed in the lower margin at the right (margins not visible here due to framing?).

Guy.

Here's a link to an earlier noh ghost, but one that's not lying down on the job. :)

Best regards,
