Subject:Lacquered Writing Set
Posted By: Fred Tue, Nov 03, 2015 IP: 149.129.133.62

Hi,

Although new in field of Asian art I got particularly attracted by Japanese Lacquer and recently acquired a lacquered writing set which pictures from the dealer I uploaded in attachment to this post.

I would be appreciative of anyone who could appraise this work and tell me more of what can be said about it, the period it was made (Edo period according to the dealer), possibly the artisan's name (none of the items bears a signature), meaning of the motifs, whether it is fine work or not, etc. Anything helping understand the artisan's craft is welcome really.

The overall condition is very good I supposed for its age despite few light indentations on teh body of the boxes, the lacquer itself bears no damage to my eyes at least.

Also, about the method of preservation and cleaning of this artwork.

Many thanks,
