Your plate is a copy of a Hiroshige print from his 53 Stations of the Tokaido Road. It is Station #1 Nihonbashi. See link below.

Cheers,
Stan

URL Title :Nihonbashi

Thanks for your response, but I have looked under every search wording I can think of and can't find another bowl like mine.

Do not expect that you will find everything on the internet, including European-language discussion of products made in Japan, China, India . . . .

The respondents to your query were kind enough to share their knowledge about the print series item copied on your piece. Did you have another question?

Part of a series of contemporary ornamental dishes with views of the 53 station of the Tokaido Road between Edo and Kyoto, signed 'Chûhô' on the back. Have no more info on this maker.

Your dish depicts Nihonbashi, the first station starting in Edo (the old name for Tokyo). The designs on the platters are based upon the famous series of woodblock prints designed between 1831-34 by Utagawa Hiroshige.

Guy.

Thanks for your response, but I have looked and looked and can't find another example of the bowl I have.

Here's another example with the original wooden case, now on sale in Japan for 15000 JPY (ca. 114 EURO/121,5 USD).

Thanks for the info. What name do you use when you search for this item?

You will have to search the maker's name in Japanese 忠峰, in the advanced search modus of Google, then choose the language option 'Japanese' and go to the search result in 'images'....
