I am hoping someone can help me with this very involved scene. I believe it is a woodblock and it looks as though it is depicting either a tsunami or a “wave” of warriors attacking their opponents.

It certainly looks to be better than just “tourist” art.

It measures about 10.0x15.0 inches and bears a number of seals or words. It even has calligraphy on some of the shields. I will try to post all with two posts.

This is a genuine early 19th century Japanese woodblock print depicting a historical battle scene from earlier times. The title is printed in the cartouche at the right which is damaged and therefore difficult to read.
The print is signed at the left in the cloud band present in the design at the lower left. The signature reads 'Shuntei' (Katsukawa Shuntei, 1770-1824); at the right is the publisher's seal of Yamatoya Jûbei; in the middle are a 'kiwame' censor seal paired to the left with a date seal for Bunka 4, 3rd month (this is the 3rd month of 1807).

This a so-called 'musha-e' (warrior print), a subgenre of 'ukiyo-e'. A rather rare print from the Edo period.

one more question.... when you say "rare", is that the same as valuable?

sorry you think it is always about the money...

My primary need to know is simply to determine if I display it in a prominent space or if I relegate it to the storeroom.

The secondary reason is to adequately insure it should I decide to.

no, rare is not the same as valuable, though there is often some value attached to rarity. in this case Guy has already mentioned damage that will lower the price anyone will pay for this print, and the quality of the impression, amount of fading, etc will also affect its value.
