couldn't find this mark in the Davison....first character appears to be XU as seen in mark #2268....XU TING YAN LIU.

Not sure what happened with the photo of the bottom mark, but my friend translated it for me. 徐兴泰绘 Xu Xingtai I understand he is a modern master that died in 2004, so that might explain the absence of his mark in the guide.

The Chinese web has lots of references to this mark of "Painted by Xu Xingtai" (Xu Xing Tai Hui), said to be Republic-period. The forum link shows a mug with a base-mark of "Jiangxi Xu Xingtai Hui" (江西徐興泰繪) with an inscription on the side having a cyclical date of the "Guiwei" (癸未) year (1943). The following URL shows a bowl with the four-character mark that sold in 2006 for the Chinese yuan equivalent of around US$45.00:

You can Google your simplified or the standard characters here ( 徐興泰繪 ) and you may find a few non-repeating Chinese sites that can be put through your favorite online machine translator.

The artistry is a bit different, but the stamped mark sure looks similar. Guess it makes more sense that this teapot is a Republic piece by another Xu Xingtai than the 'modern master' that I had originally thought.

Below is a link to the modern Xu Xingtai who worked in Dehua blanc de chiine porcelain.

I was thinking maybe my teapot could be an earlier work before becoming known for his figural pieces, but I think it is another earlier artist all together.

As often is the case with Chinese names, the Xu Xingtai at Dehua has the same given name but a different "Xu" as surname than the teapot painter. In standard and simplified, the Dehua artist is 許興泰/许兴泰, whereas the other is 徐興泰/徐兴泰.
