Subject:Help Identifying Mark
Posted By: Karyn Wed, Jan 20, 2016 IP: 192.110.201.227

Hello all:

We recently came across this bowl and know nothing about it - only that it is something we really like. It is about 13" in diameter and about 2.5" tall. It appears to be hand-painted with several areas that feel raised. I have circled in yellow what appears to be two flaws in the making - these spots are raised and rough. What can you tell me about it? Can anyone identify the mark on the bottom? Thank you!

Karyn

Just wanted to add that I know it is not old - the price tag taped to the bottom in the one pic is from a department store that went out of business in 1980, if that helps? Would just like to have this in my home and would be nice to know its origin. :) Thank you!

strange, I was going to guess Japanese until I saw the mark, which suggests it is instead a modern Chinese decorative plate. the mark is stamped with a seal impression claiming that this plate is a treasure personally examined by the Jiaqing emperor (19th century). Not sure if this is a Hong Kong/Macau factory piece.
