Posted By: Jesse Steigerwalt Sun, Mar 27, 2016 IP: 72.79.158.237

Wondering if what I have is real Jade. Mine is EXACTLY like the one at the shanghai museum found at this link .. http://www.historylines.net/pages/Summer_2010_2.html

Middle row, 5th item down.

Also view the youtube video I took of my disk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLGZIHOGc-s

Do I have real Jade? Or?
Whats it worth?

Link :Video of the disk (scratch test & light test)

I saw you posted this disc twice but nobody responded to either post. It is really difficult to try to appraise a jade piece based on a few low-resolution picture when it is sometime difficult even when one is able to examine a jade piece in person.

Your question "Is this real jade?" by itself is hard to answer.
(1) Did you mean if it was made of jade? How do you define jade?
(2) Did you mean if it was archaic, like the one you saw in the Shanghai museum?

I do not know how authentic the jade disc in the Shanghai museum was. However, I took a look at it yesterday and I am sorry to say that I do not believe your piece looks "exactly" like it, in either material or carving quality. Again, sorry.

I am extremely disturbed by the quality of the material and the carvings of your disc, again, no disrespect intended. My opinions were based on your low-resolution pictures. I was most disturbed by all of these dirty appearance of your piece and do not know if they are simply dirt on its surface (to make it appears old) or in its material. I watched your video but could not make any sense out of it with your scratch test. Also, a scratch test alone cannot confirm if it was made of either nephrite or jadeite, what westerners consider as real jade. Many material can pass the scratch test but is neither nephrite or jadeite.

From its appearance, it looks like serpentine to me but from the translucency shown in your video and if it did pass the scratch test, it might be made of some types of agate or quartz. Of course, it could be made of nephrite, but its appearance just did not look anything like it.

Of course, I can be wrong. I do not know if the reason you want to know of its value is because you want to resell it or?

To be honest, if I see this disc on eBay, I simply would not bid on it unless for a cheap study piece. Again, no pun intended. May be others would share their thoughts on it. Since I am not a jade expert, I can indeed be wrong. Thanks for sharing. Super
