It's a cork carving made in China after 1970.

Just a souvenir cork carving. They're not great art and certainly not valuable, but I confess to liking them as well, and have a couple stashed away somewhere.

A carved cork landscape. Popular with tourists and novelty gift shops.

The reason that you like this?
There is a balance within nature and Chinese art that appeals to us for many aesthetic reasons.

Chinese artists understood the qualities inherent in the nature of the natural. Bamboo bends but does not break, a beautiful lotus grows from mud, pines are green in all seasons, and there is a natural compositional balance within a frame, even when that frame is in the shape of a fan.
