Could someone translate this? It looks like an American Southwestern pictograph but drawn/written in China.

夢塵 - dreaming of this mortal life, written in an ancient script, possibly based on JiaGuWen 甲骨文.

And it would appear that the artist is 78 years old 。

The two large scripts, from right to left are 夢塵, same as the two smaller scripts at their left, from top to bottom.

夢塵 meng chen

夢 - means dreams, in this case really means 夢想 dream of, like dreaming of becoming a millionaire, dreaming of going to college, etc.

塵 - usually means dust and in this case means 塵世 chen shi, which means this world or this mortal life.

I believe this may have something to do with Buddhism, it may be translated just as mike oz did, "dreaming of this mortal life" or "dreaming of this world". However, there may be deeper meaning.

In this example, Chinese immigrants who came to the States had to give up their dreams 夢 (of becoming somebody important) to face the reality of a harsh life in the real world 塵 (low-pay jobs).
