Subject:Hidden image in Japanese painting?
Posted By: Chuck Thu, Apr 21, 2016 IP: 68.231.42.77

I might be imagining things, but the little man in this painting seems to be poking an alligator or crocodile in the snout with a pole. It appears that the shoreline outline shows the beast complete with a hand, and an eyeball looking right at the guy.
For good measure, I also see a long-tailed rat in the shoreline facing away from the water. The images are even more pronounced when looking at the painting in-person.
I noticed all this after looking a lot at the shoreline, because it appeared to be too defined in balance with the rest of the painting.
Maybe it says something about these "hidden images" in my previous unanswered request for a translation of some copy inside the painting.
Is there any history of the Japanese using hidden images in their art?
Thank you.
Chuck
