Subject:Japanese Doors with remarkable detail.
Posted By: Japanese Doors: Wood Copper and Brass. Sat, Apr 23, 2016 IP: 75.13.93.12

Made of Wood, Copper and Brass. Size: 80" x 27.25" each.

I am trying to learn as much as possible about these doors. They have been exhibited in a fine arts museum and have had several experts give differing opinions about their age, ranging from Meiji era to the 1940s.

An employee at the National History Museum in Tokyo said that they may have come from an imperial family shrine.

The auction that I purchased them from (over a decade ago) claimed that they were being sold on behalf of the estate of a U.S. official (possibly Ambassador) who received these as a gift from the imperial family. It would be great if this were true, however, I have found no evidence to support this claim.

Thank you.
