Subject:Kangxi Imperial Yellow 13 3/4" Bowl - Help with Authentication
Posted By: Nels Gullerud Sat, Apr 23, 2016 IP: 173.170.133.70

I have a 13 3/4" X 5 3/4" Yellow Imperial Glaze Bowl with slightly flared rim and 3/8" Collared foot, full 6 character Kangxi mark in double circle that I am trying to authenticate. The Marks look good except for a slight irregularity in the top right corner of the top left character. Do you think this is penmanship or something else? Any ideas or suggestions to check out? Thanks in advance for your help. Also including overall bowl and glaze pictures for comments.

In my opinion, probably no older than late 19th century. Granlular cobalt in mark and distribution & types of small kiln flaws in glaze and on foot consistent with what was seen in Guangxu period. Whatever the color, not an imperial piece of the period due to shortfalls in its manufacturing and glazing quality.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thanks Bill - Had looked at this bowl several years ago and never was sure of age. Thanks for specifics regarding why it may be of later manufacture. I learn a little piece each time I query here!
