Subject:Would the Ardabil Carpet Be Considered to Be of Asian Origin?
Posted By: Charon L. Mon, May 02, 2016 IP: 12.187.186.106

I was recently reading about the famous Ardabil carpet in preparation for an upcoming trip to London where the rug is on display. (For anyone unfamiliar, I've provided a link to the backstory of the carpet, though I'm assuming most readers on this forum would recognize it immediately). The Ardabil Carpet is considered a Persian rug and I'm currently caught in an argument with my colleague that this would classify it as Asian art. I was hoping someone with a little more expertise might be able to weigh in on this argument?

Since Iran lies East of the Bosporus, it is reckoned to be in Asia.

Thank you so much, Bill H. I knew that the Ardabil carpet had to have been considered of Asian origin but I didn't know how to verify it so succinctly. Using the Bosporus as a regional border is perfect. Thanks again for your help!
