Subject:Jar w/Lid, Export Market?
Posted By: Lance Frazer Fri, May 06, 2016 IP: 67.187.170.37

This item is about 8 inches tall, fairly lightweight, and without any identifying marks that I can find. The only information that came with it was a business card for a defunct San Francisco important firm "Gumling Importing Company", specializing in "Oriental Fine Arts". The business card has a 415 area code, which makes it no earlier than 1947 All I could find relating to the company was that they had gone out of business in the late 1940s. It seems there was a mark of some kind on the bottom, but it appears to have been pretty much worn away. My sense is that this was probably something made for the export market, but I would certainly appreciate and and all information. It's a neat little jar, and I'd like to find out more about it (when it might have been made, use, etc.) My thanks in advance.
