Subject:Looking for info on these paintings I found
Posted By: Bryan Sat, May 07, 2016 IP: 74.76.47.196

I found the attached two pieces of art and was wondering if you have any idea what they might be? The paper is extremely thin like tissue paper and it's hand painted.

Do you know if they're Chinese? Japanese? age? medium etc.

Hi,

I am not sure about the origin but I think I have seen a similar painting before from Indonesia.

About the topic: Judging from the beard the first person could be Guan Yu (also called Guan Gong or Guandi).
Due to the similarity of both paintings it seems they were created as a pair and therefore the other person with the wild beard could be Zhang Fei. (even though it is more of a comical version)

These are what Chinese call "door gods". You can do a google search to find out more.

From the pictures, these look like prints, with paint added by hand to certain parts of the prints.
