Subject:Looking for name or info on this painting
Posted By: Mendy Thu, Jun 02, 2016 IP: 68.194.92.105

Hi, I'm wondering who the artist of this piece might be, and a ballpark of what it might be worth? I have a second piece that is slightly damaged, and including it too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What you have are Japanese woodblock prints. The first is "Rain at Yakabei Gorge" by Goyō Hashiguchi. See link below for one at the Boston MFA that is not faded.

Given the poor photo, it is hard to be sure, but I think your print is an original. The faded condition will reduce its value. With the info I provided, you can search for prices.

Cheers,
Stan

The second print is by Kitagawa Utamaro. Given its color and condition, I suspect it is a reproduction and not an original. I don't have time to try to identify now. You can search the web and see if you can find it.

I found the original Utamaro print from which yours was copied. As a dup, it's value is decorative. See link below.
