Subject:What cause colour to bleed when porcelain is fired?

I have a question for ceramic experts here. Sometimes I would be given a shard or a broken cup, but when I was in Shanghai recently, I was given this vase to 研究 its defects....as a "study piece".

Although it is a beautiful vase, the maker must have made some mistakes during the firing which had caused the red to run (or is it bleed?). What could have caused this error?
